Dead Heat

Description

A heat wave so strong even the most ancient trees succumbed and crumbled to the ground

The Story (from Chaos' view):
The human took the saddle off my back, unclipped my bridle, and told me to stay put while she searched for some water for the two of us. The heat was unbearable, and our water supplies has quickly run out. The heavy dragon tack only compounded the issue, and I became dehydrated much quicker than I normally would. We came to this place because the human had heard stories of a snake-like dragon that patrolled the area, hiding in the grass. When we arrived, we saw nothing but field upon field of dead, ivory grass, not the ideal hiding place for a grasslands dragon. I figured he'd have moved on by now, relocated to a place where prey was plentiful, and the grass was green enough to effectively hide in. I suppose I was wrong, the heat and lack of camouflage only made this particular dragon more desperate, desperate enough to attack a fully grown horse. The worst part is realizing that this is a young dragon of this species, there must be a mother, or at least another dragonling somewhere nearby. I need to find my human...

Yeah... I've never claimed to be any good at stories... or backgrounds... or dragons for that matter. But I draw them anyway and hope they're not too awful ^^;
I've always been particularly fond of a type of English dragon, long, snakelike, no wings, short and stubby legs. I can't for the life of me remember a name for them (Wyrms maybe?) but they're known for living in shepard's fields, or in wells. I opted for a field-faring version, figuring they'd be green and camouflaged. But with a long and severe drought (a dead heat, as the case may be) that green cover could be destroyed, leaving a large predator completely exposed and desperate for a meal.
